Most of you that read this post are going to think that I am a complete dork, or just really really stupid. Guess what... I don't care what you people think! so there.

I was watching oprah today with my mom before band practice, and she was doing this special on Hurricane Katrina, and New Orleans and all that stuff. I simply don't see how those people are making it through day after day. From what I can see...there is NO hope there, and hope has always been my lifeline...especially the past year. Hope and faith in knowing that things will get better, hope in knowing that my mom would get better. But. I don't see how those poor people are surviving on sheer instinct, and only motivated to know that they are the lucky ones...because they are still alive. Each and every one of them is a miracle, and I know that God is smiling down on them because they are pushing through and keeping the faith. To those that are looting and raping the children, they... can go screw themselves. How people can loot houses and going through people's possessions WITHOUT A GUILTY CONCIOUS!!!! I just don't understand.

Anyway. Back to oprah.

she was talking about how random celebrities were going to New Orleans and Biloxi and places that got hit REALLY hard, and helped out with feeding the people or packing boxes full of necessities. But... the one that got me... was faith hill. (By the way... I really liked her blonde hair better than the new brown... :/ ). She originally stayed in tennessee and packed something crazy like 500 boxes of things, but she felt that she needed to go to where the destruction occured.

So she did.

And then they panned to this one part, where it was all children, with clothes that were tattered and torn, but they had water - a NEED that we take for granted to the MAX - so they were completely so excited. Their families were in the backround smiling on their children. In getting this water... Faith Hill asked them if they wanted to sing, since...ya know...she's a pretty good singer. So they did. And one of them said, "Amazing grace! Amazing grace!" with the look of complete joy on her face. It'd be pretty safe to say she was about 6 or 7.

so they sang. And they sang with all of their hearts, and more happiness than I have seen in most people in their lifetime. I just sat there, watching this miracle, and started to cry. It wasn't obnoxious or anything, but my mom noticed... and she said, "Melissa...what the heck is wrong with you?". And all I could say was, "Mom... this RIGHT HERE is what I want to do with my life." Meaning- this is what I want to do every single day. See people happy, people that to the world have nothing, yet knowing that they have more happiness than most....and knowing that I aiding their happiness by simply singing with them, and being love, being a form of Jesus that they would not have otherwise to those people. So after that... I was thinking...Christmas break for a few days, I'm gonna see what God thinks about me and a group taking a trip up there to help out and be with the victims' kids, and just see what I can do... I know it won't be much. But hey, to them, it might mean the world.
